UCMAS Special Technique

Exploring Visual Arithmetic with the Abacus

The Abacus is a humble & ancient arithmetic tool used to hone & sharpen the learner’s mental abilities. The thousand-year-old tool helps students to visualize numbers on a base-10 system.

Through dual-hand training, students engage different fingers on the abacus, stimulating both hemispheres of the brain. Research has shown that this technique enhances neural connectivity, unlocking hidden potential in young minds. Studies from around the world have highlighted the secondary benefits of abacus training, including improved problem-solving, intuitive thinking, mental endurance, and overall cognitive capacity.

The 6-finger movement stimulates all the five brain lobes & acupoints for enhanced cognitive skills in a child.
